What other services do we offer?

Alongside our specialist menopause care, our doctors are Women’s Health Specialist GP’s with extensive experience working in both primary care and secondary care gynaecology services. We offer women the time to explore other aspects of their health including contraception, menstrual issues (heavy bleeding, pelvic pain), premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), urinary issues (recurrent infections, incontinence), prolapse/pelvic floor issues and vaginal/vulval conditions. We provide detailed assessments with individualised management (including examinations, prescriptions and procedures where required) and offer a full range of contraceptive services at our Women’s Health and Wellbeing Clinic in Southern Oxfordshire.

Contraceptive services

Our specialists can provide contraceptive assessments, reviews and monitoring together with prescriptions for all forms of contraception. We offer a range of contraceptive options including:

  • Contraceptive pills, patches and rings

  • Contraceptive injections

  • Implants

  • Coils (IUD and IUS) 

We do not provide emergency contraception or termination (abortion) services.

STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing

Most STIs can be treated easily, it is important to do this as early as possible so please don’t delay testing. If you have symptoms of infection or have been in contact with someone an infection you are welcome to discuss this with us and we can undertake the appropriate tests.

Menstrual issues and pelvic pain

Our doctors are delighted to offer consultations to discuss management of irregular or heavy bleeding and pelvic pain. We use imaging services at local private hospitals (The Circle and Berkshire Independent Hospitals in Reading, The Manor Hospital in Oxford and The Foscote Hospital in Banbury) and have excellent links with Consultants in Gynaecology across the South of England should further specialist advice and management be required.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)

PMS is a chronic condition experienced by many women (up to 30% of women. Severe PMS is referred to as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder and can affect between 5 and 8% of women significantly impacting quality of life. Every woman’s experience of PMS is different, and symptoms can vary between cycles and even during individual cycles. Symptoms impact different women at different times during their menstrual cycles and have variable duration. Our doctors have experience in helping women with PMS and PMDD manage their symptoms to allow them to optimise their health and wellbeing and improve quality of life.

Urinary issues and prolapse

Dr Barber and Dr Kennedy have experience in managing urinary symptoms and prolapse having worked in the department of Urogynaecology at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford as GP specialists. They are able to offer assessments and medical management options for women experiencing these issues including prescribed treatments and ring pessaries.
