Psst….. Did you know it was our birthday?

Last month Oxford Menopause turned one and what a year it has been!

Oxford Menopause is the dream of Dr Katie Barber. In October 2020 that dream came to life when Oxford Menopause hosted its first clinic with 4 patients but fast forward to the present and we are holding 3 full-day clinics a month (and more!), with two doctors and have over 250 patients.

We began our journey at Woodlands Medical Centre in Didcot and built a team who many of you will know well. Our Clinical Director, Dr Katie Barber, who works tirelessly to ensure that all our patients receive the best tailored care, myself, Helen, who oversees the daily running of the service and Karla and Ali, our wonderful Health Care Assistants who are always on hand to assist and take bloods. We have also welcomed to the fold Vanessa, who helps to run the clinics and Dr Helen Kennedy, a previous colleague of Dr Barber and a fellow Accredited Menopause Specialist and Women’s Health GP. It has been so exciting to have Dr Kennedy on board, with her wealth of Menopause and Women’s health experience we have been able to double the number of appointments we can offer and help many more ladies.

Dr Barber also undertakes a considerable amount of work behind the scenes helping with Menopause initiatives. She has been involved in coaching large companies to support women in their workforce through the menopause, interviewed for national newspapers and taught around the country training a new generation of Menopause Specialists and other healthcare professionals.

But the most rewarding part for us all is the wonderful feedback from you, our patients. We can see the positive differences that the right advice and treatments are making to your everyday lives, and we thank you for your trust and ongoing support.

‘It was such a pleasure to meet you and you cannot imagine how much better I felt after our appointment.  My medication has arrived and I am starting today.  Thank you so much for taking the time to explain and make me feel so reassured.’

‘The positive change in the sweats, sleep, brain fog, headaches, general aches and pains and anxiety have been transformative! It’s made me feel completely different and I just wish all women had the opportunity to experience the excellent care you offer.’

‘I came to see you for the first time in September and started taking the HRT you recommended soon after. The effect has been amazing and I am so grateful to be feeling ‘steady’ rather than suffering with all the emotional turbulence which was ruining my life. So, thank you for listening to me and helping me – I honestly didn’t think I could have continued like that for much longer.’

As many of you will know it is now time for Oxford Menopause to take its next steps. We are excited to be a growing business and, as we look forward to 2022, we will continue to grow, move premises (more about that soon…) and most importantly, keep supplying the best high quality, Menopause and Women’s health care we can.
